Understand your network and hardware

What is network?

A network consists several computers that are linked in order to share resources such as printers and network devices.

Networking, In the simplest sense, is the method of linking computers so that they can exchange files, printers, applications, and other computer-related resources.

What is the Internet?

The internet is the broader network that enables computer networks operated by companies, governments, universities and other organizations all over the world to talk to one another. In simple words, when you visit a website, your computer sends a request over to a server where websites are stored. The server retrieves the website and transfers the correct data back to your computer once the request arrives.

What is the network Hardware?

Optical Network Terminal, firewall, switches, routers, and wireless access points are the essential networking basics. Through them, devices connected to your network can communicate with one another and with other networks, like the Internet. Each of them performs very different functions in a network.

Optical Network Terminal
The ONT (also known as the modem) converts light-based fiber network signals into copper and electric (Ethernet wiring) for your router to use. The ONT communicates with your provider's fiber network with an optical fiber cable at the Termination Point, or TP, installed by your provider. The ONT is attached to A LAN or Ethernet cable is used to connect the to your router. In simple words, it is device that let you enjoying Internet.

Firewall
A Firewall is a network management system that tracks and filters incoming and outgoing network traffic based on an organization's previously established security policies. At its most basic, a firewall is essentially the barrier that sits between a private internal network and the public Internet. The key feature of firewall is to allow non-threatening traffic in and to keep dangerous traffic out. Normally it will only implements under a big organizations/company to secure their network.

Switches
A switch functions as a controller, connecting computers, printers, and servers to a network. It helps devices to communicate with each other, as well as with other networks, creating a network of shared resources.

Routers
Routers connect multiple networks together. They also connect computers on those networks to the Internet. Routers all computers on a network to share a single Internet connection. It analyses data being transmitted through a network, chooses the best route for data to travel, and sends it on its way. Routers connect your business to the world, secure data from security threats, and can even decide which computers receive priority over others.

Access Points
Access points makes it possible for computers to link to a wireless network without the use of cables. A wireless network makes it easy to bring new devices online. Router provides the bandwidth, while an access point expands it so that the network can accommodate more devices, and those devices can access the network from farther away.
