With losses totaling at least S$25 million since January 2022, at least 231 victims have fallen for tech support scams. This scam, which is not brand-new, includes scammer impersonating to access victims' fund by promising to help them with computer or Wi-Fi network problems.

What is Technical Support Scam?

The scammer will try to contact you by phone or fake technical support scam website. Scammers pose as Microsoft representatives or possibly ACM Technical Support. Draws attention to typical computer problems such as spyware and viruses. They offer to connect to your system and "fix" these hoaxed issues.

What possible consequences of such scam?

The aim of the scammers is to access your computer remotely and perform the following:

  • Take control of your computer and persuade you to download software that modifies settings and leaves your computer open to attack.
  • Ask you for your credit card details so we may charge you for phone services.
  • It drives you to phony websites and requests your credit card number and other personal or financial data.


Numerous of these scammers operate phony firms or enterprises with complete websites and toll-free phone numbers.

If you suspect a problem, update your computer's security software and run a scan. Whenever you need help solving a problem, talk to someone you know and trust. Many software providers offer online or telephone support. Computer equipment dealers also offer personal technical support.

What to do if technical support scam occurs

  • 1. You might be able to cancel the transaction if you give credit or debit card information to tech support scammers. Get in touch with your bank or credit card company right away. Tell them what occurred and inquire as to whether the accusation might be dropped.
